Our study of 70 SARS-CoV-2 antibody-positive and 348 control participants corroborates the finding that smell dysfunction is long-lasting (at least 4 months) or possibly permanent for a subset of mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 cases and that certain odors are particularly affected.

This knowledge could be exploited in cost-effective and fast specific smell tests the ENT clinic to monitor the recovery of olfactory function after SARS-CoV-2 infection.
