Hippocampal circuits are instrumental for memory function. They are specifically affected in conditions such as temporal lobe apilepsy and Alzheimer's disease.
Here, we discuss mechanisms and functional markers of normal and pathological hippocampal circuit operations using large scale recordings and advanced computational analysis. We show how cell type specific subcircuits play roles in hippocampal memory representations and how their distortion in epilepsy may lead to the associated cognitive comorbidities.
