The Branco Weiss Fellowship – Society in Science

The fellowship is designed for postdocs at home in sciences, engineering and social sciences who are willing to engage in a dialogue on relevant social, cultural, political or economic issues across the frontiers of their particular discipline.
The Branco Weiss Fellowship is designed to support postdoctoral researchers after their PhD and before their first faculty appointment. Those in current postdoctoral positions are also eligible.

The 3Brain - Massimo Grattarola Award


The 3Brain - Massimo Grattarola Award program is intended to support the activities of young researchers from academic, government or non-profit institutions.

3Brain is now offering a 10,000€ prize to support young neuroscientists at the beginning of their scientific journey.


Submitted projects will be reviewed in two rounds of evaluation:

Evaluation round 1: 14th of March, 2021

Evaluation round 2: Applicants with projects accepted for the second round of evaluation is informed at the beginning of April and will be asked to give a 15 minutes virtual talk, to introduce their project idea in more detail at the beginning of May.



  • Applications can be submitted by researchers that hold a doctorate and at least a 50% position at an academic institution, government institution or non-profit organization in any part of the world.
  • The applicant’s position must be guaranteed for at least 1 year, starting from the contest’s deadline date.
  • Additionally, only applicants that hold their PhD for less than 3 years and authored/coauthored at least one peer-reviewed publication based on in-vitro or ex-vivo neuronal or cardiac models will be considered.


The project is an idea and concept of what you would like to do with our HD-MEA, having an MEA is not a required condition for project submission.


What may be founded by the award:

Money from The 3Brain - Massimo Grattarola Award must be used primarily to fund research projects planned (which is not required to be the submitted project for this Award), executed and authored by the award winner (or winners). All funded research involving animal breeding and/or experiments must be approved by the appropriate authorities and/or following the guidelines for the welfare of experimental animals of the respective country. 

Budgeted items can include:

- Supplies, consumables, and small pieces of equipment

- Costs for publication in peer-reviewed journals

- Costs for attendance of national and international conferences

Pour être éligible à une demande d’aide individuelle de la FRM, une équipe d’accueil doit obligatoirement, à la date du Conseil scientifique concerné, être labellisée par un ou des organisme(s) public(s) français de recherche ou d’enseignement supérieur (Inserm, CNRS, Université...) comme suite à une évaluation par le Hceres.

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA): the HDSA Berman-Topper Family Career Development Fellowship


HDSA is committed to sponsoring innovative lines of scientific inquiry into HD biology by young researchers with a desire in making HD part of their career plan. The goal of this new program is to develop the next generation of passionate and innovative HD scientists.

The award provides up to $80,000/year ($75,000 salary and research support, plus $5,000 travel/education budget). The funds cannot be used to purchase laboratory equipment, nor does the award cover indirect costs. The HD Career Development Fellowships are not renewable and non-transferrable.

  • Applications are welcome from young scientists/clinicians who are interested in a career in Huntington’s disease research or care.
  • Applicants should be no more than 5 years removed from obtaining their PhD or completing their residency/fellowship.
  • Applicants cannot have their own laboratory and must identify an individual who will serve as his or her mentor and supervisor.
  • Open to researchers from around the world.


Mentors: All applicants must have an established mentor who has a PhD and/or MD/DO degree and be a clinical and/or research investigator with a well-documented history of accomplishments in the HD field.

L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science: Prize French Young Talents


The Foundation L’Oréal, the French National Commission for UNESCO and the Academy of Sciences support, up to 20 000 €, the work of doctoral and post-doctoral women students.

Amount per endowment

  • Doctoral students: € 15,000
  • Postdoctoral students: € 20.000

Main eligibility criteria

  • Be enrolled in at least the second year of a doctoral program (doctoral students),
  • Be in post-doctoral studies and have defended their thesis before the call for applications (post-doctoral students),
  • Carry out your research work in France (metropolitan) or in overseas territories, in the fields of Life and Environmental sciences, Physical sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer science and Information sciences,
  • Do not have a permanent position before receiving the Award.

France Parkinson : Bourses

France Parkinson met au concours des BOURSES dans le but de permettre à de jeunes chercheurs de compléter ou de développer leur formation dans un programme recherche sur la maladie de Parkinson. Ce programme pourra être clinique ou fondamental.

Le délai de dépôt des demandes est le 21 mars 2021

Les bourses, d’une durée de 12 mois maximum, sont destinées à des :

  • Étudiants en fin de thèse (4e ou 5e année) : montant maximal de 33 000+ 2 000€*
  • Stagiaires postdoctoraux (1re OU 2e année de post-doc suivant la date de soutenance de la thèse) : montant maximal de 50 000+ 2 000€*

Les fonds accordés devront servir à couvrir l’intégralité du salaire, charges salariales et patronales comprises.

*Particularité 2021 : Le WPC

Le congrès WPC (World Parkinson Congress) organisé par l’Association World Parkinson Coalition aura lieu à Barcelone en juin 2022.  France Parkinson souhaite vivement la participation à ce congrès de tous les chercheurs soutenus dans le cadre de l’Appel à Projets 2021. Un montant de 2000€ est prévu à cet effet dans chaque financement qui sera attribué en 2021. Ce montant ne pourra être utilisé que pour la participation au Congrès WPC.

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation: 2021 BBRF YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANT


The BBRF Young Investigator Grant provides support for the most promising young scientists conducting neurobiological research. Two-year awards up to $70,000, or $35,000 per year are provided to enable promising investigators to either extend research fellowship training or begin careers as independent research faculty. Basic and/or clinical investigators are supported, but research must be relevant to serious brain and behavior disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders or child and adolescent mental illnesses.


The Foundation does not pay institutional overhead on the BBRF Young Investigator Grant Program.

The Foundation allows considerable flexibility in the use of funds: equipment, stipends, etc., are all acceptable as long as the support is in the service of the BBRF Young Investigator Grant research project.


Deadline: March 25, 2021


Applicants must have a doctoral level degree (e.g., M.D. with [minimum PGY-IV] training, Ph.D., Psy. D., Pharm. D., etc.) and already be employed in research training or a faculty research position. The YI Grant is intended to support advanced post-doctoral fellows, instructors and assistant professors (or equivalent).  Pre-doctoral students, first year post-doctoral fellows, faculty who serve (d) as a P.I. on a NIH R01 grant are not eligible. Investigators at the rank of associate professor or equivalent are also not eligible (assistant professors who serve (d) as a principal investigator (PI) on a NIH R01 or equivalent grant are now eligible for the BBRF Independent Investigator Grant).

Applicants must have a non-site mentor or senior collaborator who is an established investigator in areas relevant to psychiatric disorders. The mentor/sponsor role is usually extensive for fellowship extension (mentor), and more senior colleague/advisor (sponsor) for an applicant prepared to initiate independent science.

Coopération franco-allemande : Appel à candidatures PROCOPE-MOBILITE 2021


L'ambassade de France en Allemagne propose un programme de bourses intitulé
« Procope mobilité ».

Ces bourses de mobilité permettront aux doctorant.e.s, post-doctorant.e.s et jeunes en poste en Allemagne d’effectuer un séjour de recherche dans un laboratoire ou un institut de recherche situé en France.

La bourse de mobilité peut financer un séjour d’une durée d’un à trois mois entre avril et décembre 2021.

Les bénéficiaires du programme recevront un montant forfaitaire de 1300 € par mois pour les doctorants, 1800 € par mois pour les post-doctorants, 2300 € par mois pour les chercheurs, plus frais de transport.

Tout.e doctorant.e, post-doctorant.e ou jeune, dans une limite de 7 ans après la soutenance de thèse, rattaché.e à un organisme de recherche allemand, peut candidater à ce programme de mobilité, qui englobe tous les domaines de recherche.

Le Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies (FQRNT) : bourses de recherche postdoctorale (B3X)

Le FQRNT attribue des bourses de 30 000 $ aux postdoctorants. La durée minimale de la recherche postdoctorale est de six mois et la durée maximale est de 24 mois.

La recherche postdoctorale doit être effectuée dans un autre établissement que celui qui a décerné le doctorat. Les milieux d'accueil hors du Québec internationalement reconnus sont privilégiés.

Pour bénéficier d'une bourse de formation, il faut avoir la citoyenneté canadienne ou la résidence permanente au sens de la Loi sur l'immigration et la protection des réfugiés (L. C. 2001, ch. 27) et être domicilié au Québec au sens de la Loi sur l'assurance maladie du Québec.

Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS): Eric Kandel Young Neuroscientists Prize 2021


The Hertie Foundation (Germany), in cooperation with the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), is pleased to announce the opening of nominations for the Eric Kandel Young Neuroscientists Prize 2021.

The prize includes:

  • Prize money of € 50,000.00 for personal use,
  • A research budget of € 50,000.00 for a scientific cooperation (partnership or mentoring) which extends the laureate’s area of research,
  • The Eric Kandel Prize Lecture at the FENS Forum 2022 in Paris, France


The deadline for nominations is May 1, 2021


All European neuroscientists under the age of 40, who have demonstrated outstanding and independent scientific creativity and productivity, as documented by multiple and excellent publications in leading scientific journals, are eligible. The age limit may be extended for specific circumstances such as maternity and paternity leave (max. 2 years per child).

Candidates must be nominated by the head of their university/research institute or by an internationally renowned neuroscientist. Self-nomination is not possible.

La Fondation Française pour la Recherche sur l'Épilepsie (FFRE) : appels à projets de recherche 2021


La FFRE lance ses appels à projets de recherche 2021 :


  • « Soutien à la recherche clinique : soigner » : 50 000 €

50 000 € pour financer ou co-financer un projet de recherche clinique visant à améliorer la prévention, le diagnostic, ou la prise en charge des épilepsies ou encore le développement d’approches thérapeutiques innovantes pour mieux soigner l’épilepsie. Ce crédit de recherche est lancé avec le soutien de la Fondation Vera Nijs & Jens Erik Rosborg, sous l’égide de la Fondation de Luxembourg.


  • « Prix Valérie Chamaillard » : 30 000 €

30 000 € qui seront attribués à un jeune chercheur non statutaire pour ses travaux de recherche réalisés sur l’épilepsie de l’enfant et/ou de l’adolescent. Ce prix est décerné par la Fondation Valérie Chamaillard, abritée par la Fondation de France.

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds: PhD fellowships

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds awards PhD fellowships to outstanding junior scientists who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project of approximately 3 years in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory.
The fellowship comprises a competitive monthly stipend that is initially granted for 2 years and that can be extended for up to another 12 months.

Deadlines of application: 1 February, 1 June, 1 October of each year.
